Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, July 13, 2009.
Several weather systems will produce active weather across Europe on Monday. In the West, a complex area of low pressure will remain centered to the west of the British Isles. As the system spins over the northeastern Atlantic, strong winds will push moisture into the British Isles. In turn, light to moderate showers will fall across Ireland and the southern regions of the United Kingdom throughout the day. Meanwhile, an associate front will move through mainland Europe, creating a chance for light showers across northeastern France, southern Germany, northern Italy, and Austria.
A second low pressure system is expected to form within the aforementioned area of low pressure and will affect the western Scandinavia Peninsula. Wrap around energy associated with this secondary low will enhance onshore flow across Norway, triggering precipitation throughout southern Norway.
In the East, another low pressure system spinning over the southeastern Europe will lift northward through the Baltic States and into the northwestern Russia. As this system progresses, brief periods of light to moderate showers and scattered thunderstorms will pop up across the eastern Europe countries. High pressure will build in behind this exiting system, bringing drier weather to the majority of eastern Europe by the end of the day.

On this date in 1993, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the Sea of Japan triggered a large tsunami. Waves up to 90 feet tall swept away people and buildings. While 239 people died, a far more major diaster was avoided due to the Japan Meteorological Agency's timely warnings to residents and businesses.
