Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, November 12, 2009.
Tropical Storm Ida will continue to track through the Southeastern US on Thursday and bring wet weather to the region. The system will create a frontal boundary that will extend southward from Florida, over Cuba, and into the Central American countries. This will allow for periods of heavy rain and intense downpours with heaviest storms expected over the Bahamas and Honduras. Moving south, onshore flow over Panama and Costa Rica is expected to bring another day with scattered storms. To the east, another area of low pressure will be under close supervision as it has low potential for tropical storm development. The system will create a front that will push moisture over Puerto Rico as it slowly moves southward throughout the day. Moderate to heavy showers and thunderstorms will accompany this system as it has picked up abundant moisture from the Caribbean. At the same time, high pressure will build over Mexico and finally bring a break in wet weather over central and southern Mexico.
The devastating "Bangladesh Cyclone" hit the Bay of Bengal on this date in 1970. A wall of water nearly 20 feet high engulfed all low lying areas and islands in the Ganges Delta region and killed an estimated 300,000 people.
