	Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 5:40 PM EDT on July 05, 2009 ... Strong thunderstorms will affect Onslow and Carteret counties until 645 PM EDT... At 540 PM EDT... there were strong thunderstorms 23 miles southwest of Newport... or about 11 miles southeast of Camp Lejeune main gate... moving east at 25 mph. The strong thunderstorms will be near Bear Creek at 545 PM EDT... Hammocks Beach at 550 PM EDT... Cedar Point at 555 PM EDT... Cape Carteret at 600 PM EDT... Emerald Isle at 605 PM EDT... Broad Creek at 615 PM EDT. Other locations to be affected by the storms include Atlantic Beach... Pine Knoll Shores... Swansboro... Bogue... Peletier... Salter Path... Wildwood and Duck Creek. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph and small hail can be expected with these storms. Heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water on roadways and localized flooding in low lying areas. Motorists should slow down on area roadways to avoid hydroplaning. This storm is producing an excessive amount of deadly lightning. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio or other local media outlets for further updates on the weather situation across the area. 11
